ADVANTAGES
The advantages of the hand grip dynamometer test are:
- Simple and easy test
- Good indicator of general strength
An alternative test - 1 rep max test
The hand grip dynamometer also has disadvantages such as it only measures the strength of the forearm and the dynamometer has to be adjusted for hand size. If the dynamometer is not addjusted correctly this will impact the score. A good alternative test to use is the 1 Rep Max test.
The 1 Rep Max test allows the athlete to test the strength of various muscle groups, the test is carried out by testing the maximal weight that an athlete can lift in 1 repetition.
